To: Shipowners/Operators of Panamanian MODUs and Class Societies

Subject: MARPOL 73/78 – Retention on Board of Oily Waste

 

 

Regulation 21 (Special requirements for drilling rigs and other platforms) of MARPOL 73/78 indicates in Subparagraph 'a':

"they shall be equipped as far as practicable with the installations required in Regulation 16 and 17 of this Annex"

On the basis of the subparagraph cited above this Administration has determined that it is impracticable for such units to install the equipment called for by Regulation 16 and, hence, prescribes that Drilling rigs, under its Flag, make provision to retain on board all machinery space oily waste in the waste oil tank for discharge in barrels to reception facilities.
