Subject: Bulk Carriers entering Canadian Ports |
The Canadian Coast Guard has announced that it will target bulk carriers entering Canadian Ports for structural inspections. This inspection will start around September 1992.
Vessels boarded for inspection will be selected by way of a screening process.
Inspection may be excused if it can be shown that the vessel recently passed a special survey or equal.
In general, the inspection will consist of internal examination of the forepeak, one forward and one after hold and the midships upper ballast tanks. In addition, all lifesaving and firefighting equipment will be inspected.
This Administration strongly recommends that owners of bulkcarriers take all the necessary remedial actions prior to their entry into Canadian Ports.
