To: Shipowners/Operators and Masters of Merchant Vessels

Subject: Registration and inspection of Yachts

Reference: Law No. 2 of 17 January 1980 and Law No. 39 of July 1976

 

 

  1. Private, leisure, sport or pleasure yachts may only be registered in the National Merchant Marine if they meet one, or both, of the following requirements:
  2. a. Yachts of 20 meters or more in length;

    b. Yachts with a registered gross tonnage of 50 tons or more.

  3. Foreign service yachts recorded in the Panamanian Registry are subject to an Annual Safety Inspection, in order to determine whether they comply with the National and International laws and regulations currently in force. In addition, such yachts are subject to special inspections whenever circumstances merit such inspections.
  4. The criteria covered by paragraph No.1 does not affect the status of yachts presently register.
