Subject: Vessel Registration (Navigation "Patente") |
|
Reference: Law No. 2 of January 17, 1980 |
- No vessel is entitled to maintain registration under the Panamanian Registry unless it has a valid Vessel Registration (Navigation "Patente"). Such registration may be Provisional or Statutory.
- The Provisional "Patente" shall be valid for six (6) months. Once this term expires and if the vessel has failed to obtain it's "Statutory Navigation Patente", the D.G.C.M.A., might grant an extension of three months for the acquirement of the "Statutory Patente" but will impose a $500.00 (Five Hundred Dollars) penalty such a vessel. If the "Statutory Patente" is not obtained before the expiration of this three month period, the provisional registration may be canceled ex officio.
- The "Statutory Patente" for merchant vessels shall be valid for four (4) years. Yachts shall have a "Statutory Patente" valid for two (2) years. The duration of the "Statutory Patente" shall begin on the day when it was issued.
- Before the expiration of the "Statutory Patente" and upon having confirmed compliance with the fiscal obligations required by the Republic of Panama and with the legal requirements in force, the owner/operator of the Panamanian registered vessel may request the issuance of a new "Patente" for an additional period of four (4) years.
